Giving Tuesday is one of the most important days of the year for Humane Animal Partners (HAP). Your gift, which will be matched by a group of generous animal lovers, will be put to work right away to feed hungry animals, heal injuries, provide safe, warm beds, and help our dogs and cats get a second chance at a happy, healthy life.
Right now, HAP and other shelters throughout the country are experiencing lower adoption rates. Higher intake numbers and fewer adoptions mean that more resources are needed to ensure the animals in our care have everything they need, including medical treatment, food, and staff support as they await their families.
With animals waiting longer for adoption, it’s that much more critical that the dogs and cats in our care—especially those who are nervous in the shelter environment— receive above-and-beyond attention and enrichment. Food puzzle toys, special exercise activities, and training sessions with our committed staff stimulate the minds and calm the nerves of anxious animals, preparing them for their new homes.
Ace was surrendered to HAP when his owner was deployed overseas. After being in a home for the first four years of his life, Ace suffered from separation anxiety, which intensified in the shelter environment. During his time at HAP, Ace received daily behavior and enrichment support. Through the steadfast support of HAP staff, Ace’s enrichment program helped ready him for adoption. We never gave up on him, and after 942, Ace found his family and is thriving with an incredible couple who loves him.
Rag Pie came to HAP after his owner passed away. He was placed in ISO to be monitored closely and spent every day nervously crouched behind his bed, eyes cast downward. He had no interest in eating and was losing weight. HAP’s cattery staff began enrichment sessions with Rag Pie with the simple goal of making eye contact with his trainers. We quickly discovered that Rag Pie was motivated by human touch. He grew comfortable with the clicker, as he knew it meant getting a gentle pet on the side of his head. After 12 sessions, Rag Pie had mastered eye contact, began greeting his trainers, was eating better, and had stopped cowering behind his bed. Rag Pie enjoyed daily strolls around the cattery and gentle touching while he awaited adoption. We were thrilled when sweet Rag Pie was adopted into a loving family where he will spend his golden years being spoiled.
All gifts made in support of HAP’s dogs and cats will be matched by a group of generous supporters and count toward our Matching Gift Challenge. This means that your gift will go twice as far to provide exceptional care and endless love to animals like Ace and Rag Pie.
Thank you for giving as generously as you can this Giving Tuesday! After all, dogs and cats who have been abandoned and neglected want only one thing this time of year … a loving family of their very own! Through your support, you will be ensuring that they feel loved and cared for as they await their families.
