About Old Brandywine Village

Mission: Dedicated to promoting the historic preservation, economic development, safety and sense of community of Brandywine Village

Old Brandywine Village, Inc. was founded in 1964 to preserve  the historic granite homes on North Market Street built in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Building on this foundation our mission over the years has expanded to include economic development, safety and creating community through events. Recent programs include the following:
  • Village Market held weekly in the summer featuring fresh vegetables, live music, arts and crafts and a beer garden
  • Safe Street Camera Program to install surveillance cameras on North Market Street
  • Museum In the Streets featuring 20 historical plaques depicting the story of the Quakers who established the first mills on the Brandywine River in the 18th century original
  • Murals on utility boxes depicting the  role of Brandywine Village in the American Revolutionary War
  • Free Tai-Chi lessons in Brandywine Mills Plaza during the COVID pandemic
  • Annual Tree Lighting ceremony to celebrate the holiday season featuring the Choir School of Delaware, the Salvation Army Band and Santa Claus
  • Annual Clean-up the Village to pick up trash and garbage on the streets in Brandywine Village
  • Placement of decorative lighting in Brandywine Mills Plaza
