About Delaware Seaside Railroad Club

Mission: The Delaware SeaSide Railroad Club is a 501(c)(3) non-profit Educational Charity organization as recognized by the IRS. Our mission is to preserve and promote the history and hobby of model railroading. Our goal is to educate and entertain people of all ages on the many advantages of model railroading and the collecting of toy trains as a hobby.

The Delaware Seaside Railroad Club (DSRC) and Museum is Southern Delaware’s premier destination for model railroading.  Our club offers the valued citizens of Sussex County a place to explore the joys of collecting, restoring, operating, and displaying model trains of all gauges. Our organization’s emphasis is on providing the space and structure to afford the public the opportunity to join in on many benefits of the hobby and we invite everyone to explore all that we have to offer.

The Delaware Seaside Railroad Club (DSRC) is housed in a 4,200 ft2 building conveniently located at 36668 DuPont Highway, (Route 113) in Selbyville, Delaware. The club operates five large operating model railroad displays in the most common gauges: N, HO, S, O and G.  The layouts are designed for interactive operation by visitors. For our youngest enthusiasts we have a hands-on Brio clickety-clack wooden train layout and the popular Thomas the Tank Engine Lionel O-gauge layout that can be operated by children using hand-held wireless controllers.  We are open to the public on Wednesdays from 5 to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. year-round.  Admission is always free.

The DSRC conducts workshops on the care and maintenance of toy trains and how to build a home layout. Model railroading teaches many skills including carpentry for layout building, electrical wiring and artistic scenery modeling. As model trains have become more complex with digitally controlled locomotives and wireless technology our focus continues to be directed toward the advanced technology involved in this fun hobby. Model railroading reaches all of the STEAM technical and artistic skills. Scenery, landscaping, and diorama building promotes creativity and artistic expression.  Model railroading is not just the operation of trains, it encompasses the entire component of artistic development and design.

Our Club is very active in Community Outreach programs. We participate in holiday parades throughout the community with our ever-popular float that has a G-Gauge Thomas the Tank Engine running around a town scene with whistle and steam engine sounds and plenty of smoke. At Christmastime we recreate our traveling exhibits at the Georgetown Library for the enjoyment and education of the public along with dedicated instructional sessions for our friends from the kindergarten and first grade classes of Georgetown Elementary School, and various adult special needs groups.

In addition to our Clubhouse activities, we produce five Trains Shows per year either on our property or at various public venues to open up Model Railroading to as many interested citizens as possible.  Please support our efforts by designating DSRC as your target organization during this DoMore24 Campaign.  We thank you and hope to see you at our Clubhouse and Museum.
