3rd Annual Commuter Challenge!

A fundraiser for Urban Bike Project of Wilmington

$7,525 raised from 115 donors

$12,000 goal

Join Urban Bike Project for the 3nd Annual Commuter Challenge, a fundraiser and special division of the renowned Monkey Hill Time Trial! At Urban Bike Project, we believe the true test of a cyclist's mettle is how many groceries they can manage to pile onto their bicycle at one time without losing their balance. Competitors will demonstrate the true commuting potential of the bicycle while raising money for Urban Bike Project by completing the time trial course with fully loaded bicycles, culminating in the legendary climb up Monkey Hill to the finish line. Prizes will be awarded for fastest, most weight carried across the finish line, and most money raised for Urban Bike Project.

"Sounds great, but how can I support the cause?" Each competitor sets up their own fundraising page to raise money for Urban Bike Project. Competitors set fundraising benchmarks, and every time they reach a benchmark they add more weight to their bikes. The more money they raise, the more weight they carry up the hill! Add weight to your favorite competitor's bike by donating to Urban Bike Project through their fundraising page. Any amount, whether $5 or $500, helps bring your competitor closer to their benchmark goals. Scroll down for a list of competitors and links to their fundraising pages.

"Can I spectate and cheer for the competitors?" Yes! You can watch from anywhere along the course, but the party is at the finish line. Spectators shout encouragement to competitors as they climb Monkey Hill to the finish line - a lot of folks even bring cowbells or dress up in costumes. This event is free for all spectators and features live music, food trucks, and a beer garden at the finish area. After the Commuter Challenge, you can stick around to watch the pros.

"What do my donations support?" All proceeds from the Commuter Challenge @ Monkey Hill support Urban Bike Project. We are a non-profit bike shop that supports Wilmington communities by providing access to bicycling as a healthy, affordable and practical means of transportation and recreation. Bicycling helps Wilmington residents improve their health, get to work and other necessary services affordably and reliably, and enjoy greater independence and confidence.
