What makes The Wilmington Public Library so different? We are mighty for our size; doing incredible things for the community! Our library offers educational resources, robust programming and technology access to enhance the overall quality of life for patrons. We also provide meeting rooms and event spaces for businesses, organizations and civic groups.

- Authors: Terri McMillan, Venessa Brantley-Newton & Anthony Ray Hinton
- Social justice activists: Dr. Cornel West, Dr. John Perkins & Bakari Sellers
- Entertainers: LeVar Burton, Rakim, Lynn Whitfield & J.R. Martinez
- Artists & Book Illustrators: Kadir Nelson, Gordon C. James & Jerry Craft
Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, we conducted book giveaways, circulated tablets with wi-fi hotspots to assist with virtual learning and were able to think creatively to find safe, socially distanced locations to hold events. Events were also livestreamed on Zoom and Facebook for all to enjoy!

There is evidence, in the form of a hand written receipts, that the earliest Wilmington Library was first incorporated in 1754. So the Wilmington Public Library has a proven track record of adapting to change meeting the needs of our patrons through traditional books, audio/visual media, interactive programming and now virtual electronic resources. In its third century of service, the Library is truly aware of the challenges presented by an information oriented society faced with the "new normal." Thankfully we have innovative, experienced leadership, librarians, programmers and support staff who will continue serving the city of Wilmington for years to come!
