March 2
Biggs Museum: Mary Putman: Art is About Us Book Launch & Reception (Thursday, March 2 at 5 to 7 PM at the Biggs Museum in Dover). The Biggs Museum will be hosting a casual reception, light refreshments, and a chance to speak with Delaware-based painter and artist Mary Putnam. This event is free but registration is required. Bootless Stageworks: [title of show] Preview Show (Thursday, March 2, with doors opening at 6:30 and the show starting at 7:30, held at the Bootless Stageworks theatre at 1301 N. Broom Street in Wilmington). In person donors who make a donation of $10 or more between 6:30 and 7:30 will be personally escorted to their seat. Learn more or register for other performances here.

Delaware Theatre Company: Delaware Young Playwrights Festival (Thursday, March 2 at 7:30 PM). Delaware Theatre Company is pleased to present the five winning plays and playwrights for the 2022-2023 Delaware Young Playwrights Festival! This event is free and open to the public. Fostering Wishes Foundation: Livestreams (starting at 6 PM on Thursday, March 2 until 6 PM on Friday, March 3). Fostering Wishes Foundation will be going live every hour on their Facebook page, making announcements and awarding their donors in different ways.

March 3
Howard Pyle Studio: Celebration of Howard Pyle's Birthday (Friday, March 3 from 5 PM - 7:30 PM). As part of the Wilmington Art Loop, stop by the Howard Pyle Studios (1305 North Franklin Street in Wilmington) and celebrate Howard Pyle's 170th birthday. There will be cake, some music, and some light refreshments for those in attendance.

DiAE: Teacher Professional Development Program for Capital School District (Friday, March 3 from  1:15 PM - 2:15 PM at Dover High School). "Seeing Sounds: Body Percussion and Visual Art" is an experiential workshop for visual and performing arts teachers centering on the work of SOLE Defined, a D.C.-based body percussion performance group. Their production Speak Up! integrates live performance and the life and legacy of Congressman and civil rights leader John Lewis. Educators will explore percussive rhythms with the body and create a group rhythmic soundscape. Then they will use this movement and sonic motif to inspire visual artmaking using a variety of materials. Learn more here.

Wilmington Library: Dancing with the Delaware Stars Fundraising Gala (Saturday, March 4 from 6 PM - 9 PM). Learn more and register here.

March 9
Volunteer Delaware: Volunteer Fair (Thursday, March 9 from 10 am to 2 pm at The Goodwill Center, 300 East Lea Boulevard, Wilmington).  Volunteers are the backbone to many agencies and organizations. The fair provides potential volunteers and networking opportunities.

atTAcK addiction: 10th Annual E-Racing the Stigma 5K Run/Rally (Race starts at 9 AM on Saturday, March 4). Learn more and register here.

SODELO: Spring Concert (Sunday, March 19 at Rehoboth Beach Convention Center; 2pm for pre-concert discussion followed by free concert at 3:00pm). Learn more here.

 

New Castle Library Friends: Annual Meeting featuring 'Mad Hatters & White Elephants' (Thursday, March 16 at 6 PM at New Castle Public Library, 424 Delaware Street, New Castle, DE 19720). Enjoy a talk by Prof. Margaret Opsata about "Mad Hatters & White Elephants: Surprising Origins of Common Phrases," light dinner with old and/or new friends, and brief updates from our board. While this event is for NCLF members only, anyone can join or renew at the door (starting at $10).  Attendees are asked to bring their own bowls and utensils to help honor New Castle Public Library's pledge to be waste-free. St. Patrick's Center: 30th Annual St. Patrick's Day Society Communion Mass & Breakfast (Thursday, March 16 & Friday, March 17). Preparations are well underway for this our Thirtieth Annual Events and we hope you will again join us for this truly meaningful way to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day. We are pleased to announce the return to our traditional scheduled events including our Sponsors Dinner as well as our Mass and Communion Breakfast. On Thursday, March 16, you can attend the Irish Stew Dinner at St Elizabeth’s Grant Hall (including Mass at 5:30 pm with dinner to follow). On Friday, March 17, you can attend the Communion Mass at Saint Patrick’s Church at 7:30 am with breakfast at 9:00am at the Hotel DuPont in Wilmington. Learn more or buy tickets here.

PAWS for People: Spring Fling (Saturday, April 23 in Hockessin). PAWS Spring Fling is a celebration of PAWS pet therapy and funds raised support PAWS programs. In addition to a delicious lunch and a fabulous silent auction, the Spring Fling includes inspiring stories of the impact of pet therapy shared by both the pet therapy teams and the people they have visited. This year’s event will feature a special tribute to our founder and recently retired Executive Director, Lynne Robinson. Please join us to celebrate! More information can be found here.

PAWS for People: Doodles in Dewey (April 28th to 30th  in Dewey & Rehoboth). PAWS for People welcomed 1,000 people and 600 Doodles in 2022 to this weekend-long celebration of all Doodle varieties. Funds raised at Doodles in Dewey support the pet therapy programs of PAWS for People. More information can be found here.

Pancreatic Cancer Action Network's (PanCAN): PurpleStride (Saturday, April 29 in Wilmington). More information can be found here.

Best Buddies: Friendship Walk Delaware (Saturday, May 6 from 9 AM - 12 PM at Frawley Stadium in Wilmington). The Best Buddies Friendship Walk is the leading walk in the country supporting inclusion for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (also known as IDD). Join 40,000 walkers across the country to support the Best Buddies programs in your schools, workplaces and communities.  You’ll be making the world more welcoming to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities – one friendship, one job, and one life-changing connection at a time.
